Single Act of Kindness
Like I have said before I try to live my life by the quote Carpe Diem. I try to seize the day in my own way and make the best of every moment. This being said I can't always say that I have the best of days or that I am always a happy person...I have my crabby days where I would rather lock myself in my room and not see anyone, but instead I put on a smile and try to make the best of those days. Today is one of those days unfortunately. I have early morning class and I didn't get much sleep at all last night, so my day hasn't started quite like I had hoped. After class I came home craving a bowl of cereal and I pour a bowl of Captain Crunch and go for the milk...low and behold I am out! Unhappy yet again and still craving that cereal I head to the local Pac'n'Save grocery store. I grab the milk and head to the checkout with the cutest old lady I have seen in a while. I set my milk down and she rings it up and she asks in this very cute and polite voice "Hi dear how are you this morning?". Thousands of complaints ran through my mind, and I could have easily expressed my outlook on the day, but instead I responded with "I'm doing just fine, thank you. How are you doing?" At that question the lady looked up from the register and gave me a smile. After handing me my milk and change she stopped me and said "I have been here since 6 this morning, and you are the first person to ask me how I am doing. Thank you so much!" With that comment I stopped dead in my tracks and gave her a big smile. The single act of asking how her morning was, made her day, and in turn completely changed my view on the day. I was just being polite and it ended up making someone so incredibly happy that it made me happy in return. I don't claim to be the nicest person or happiest person all the time, but I do know how to be polite and courteous. So today for all of you reading (if anyone haha) go out and be polite today, ask someone how they are doing or give them a helping hand, because it could very possibly make that person's day or even your own. God Bless!
